Four Tourism Awards Finalist Nominations for Trek Tours Australia in 2026
Three trekking brands, four finalist nominations and a shared passion for Australia's wild places. Trek Tasmania, Tarkine Trails and Trek Larapinta have been recognised at the 2026 Tasmanian and Northern Territory Tourism Awards.
It’s an exciting time for the Trek Tours Australia family, with Trek Tasmania, Tarkine Trails and Trek Larapinta collectively receiving four finalist nominations across the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards and the Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards.
For our family-owned Australian trekking business, it’s a wonderful recognition of the people, passion and dedication behind the wilderness experiences we share.
From Tasmania’s ancient rainforests and remote mountain ranges to the spectacular landscapes of Central Australia, our teams share a common purpose: to create extraordinary small-group trekking experiences while respecting the wild places we’re privileged to explore.
Double finalist recognition in Tasmania
Our Tasmanian brands, Trek Tasmania and Tarkine Trails, have both been named finalists in the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
Based in Exeter in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley, Trek Tours Australia has been delivering guided wilderness adventures since 2010, introducing guests from across Australia and around the world to some of the state’s most remarkable landscapes.
Trek Tasmania: Exploring the wild heart of Tasmania
Trek Tasmania specialises in small-group, multi-day guided treks through some of the island’s most spectacular and remote wilderness areas.
From the iconic Overland Track and Walls of Jerusalem to the remote South Coast Track and Flinders Island, each journey offers something different.
Some guests are discovering multi-day trekking for the first time, while others are experienced walkers seeking the challenge of a self-supported wilderness expedition.
Our experienced guides provide the knowledge, encouragement and preparation that help guests take on these adventures with confidence, creating experiences and achievements that stay with them long after the trek ends.
Tarkine Trails: A longstanding commitment to conservation
Tarkine Trails has been sharing the extraordinary landscapes of takayna / Tarkine for more than two decades.
Its multi-day walking experiences take guests deep into ancient cool temperate rainforest and along wild, remote coastlines, offering opportunities to experience the region’s remarkable natural and cultural significance.
Conservation has been central to the Tarkine Trails story since its beginning, and responsible, low-impact tourism continues to guide its operations.
The 2026 nomination adds to an established awards history, including Silver at the 2022 Tasmanian Tourism Awards and Bronze in 2023.
Trek Larapinta named double finalist at the Brolga Awards
The celebrations extend to Central Australia, where Trek Larapinta has been named a finalist in both Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism at the 2026 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards.
Operating from Alice Springs, Trek Larapinta offers guided 3, 6, 9 and 14-day trekking experiences through the spectacular Tjoritja / West MacDonnell Ranges.
Whether it’s the challenge of conquering rugged trails, the quiet moments overlooking vast desert landscapes or the connections made along the way, the Larapinta Trail offers an experience unlike any other.
Trek Larapinta has previously won the Brolga Ecotourism Award four times, in 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
With Advanced Ecotourism Certification, Respecting Our Culture Certification and Quality Tourism accreditation, the business continues to place responsible tourism, cultural understanding and environmental care at the centre of every journey.
Its annual volunteer Larapinta Trail clean-up and preparation trip is one example of that ongoing commitment.
The people behind every wilderness adventure
While it’s our destinations that often first inspire guests to book, it’s our people who bring each journey to life.
Behind every trek is an incredible team of wilderness guides, operations specialists and guest services professionals.
From planning remote itineraries and managing complex logistics to navigating changing conditions and encouraging guests through challenging terrain, their expertise and dedication shape every experience.
As Australian Operations Manager Clare Drabsch explains:
“Our guides are the heart of this recognition.”
And she’s right.
Our guides do much more than lead walks. They share their knowledge, build confidence, create connections and help guests discover what they’re capable of achieving.
We’re equally grateful to the guests who trust us with their adventures, including the many who return year after year to explore another part of Australia.
A shared respect for Australia’s wild places
Founded by wilderness leader and regenerative farmer Holger Strie, Trek Tours Australia has always believed that exploring extraordinary natural places comes with an equally important responsibility to care for them.
Across our three recognised brands, we continue to prioritise genuinely small groups, low-impact trekking, environmental education and respect for the cultural significance of the landscapes in which we operate.
As Holger says:
“The landscape is the reason we’re here.”
It’s a philosophy that connects our operations from Tasmania to Central Australia and beyond.
Celebrating our team and the tourism industry
The winners of the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards will be announced in Hobart on 6 November, followed by the Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards in Alice Springs on 14 November.
Whatever the outcome, we’re incredibly proud of our teams and delighted to be recognised alongside so many outstanding Australian tourism operators.
To our guides, operations team, guest services crew, partners and every guest who has shared the trail with us: thank you for being part of our story.
Here’s to more remarkable landscapes, shared adventures and unforgettable moments on the trail.
